TRAINEE CONSTRUCTION PLANNER - JOB SPECIFICATION

Personal attributes and attitudes required.

 

The trainee construction planner will be from a construction background, will have progressed through an apprenticeship scheme and or will have a suitable construction qualification.

 

The individual will be reliable, confident, and presentable, will be eager to utilise their construction knowledge as the basis of development into Construction Planning. The trainee will be taught construction planning principles through to a high level of expertise.

  • The ability to learn further construction methods and to learn new software.

  • Excellent computer literacy skills

  • Flexibility with respect to working hours and duties.

  • A desire to move into a new career in planning.

  • A good level of both spoken and written English and Mathematics

  • A full clean driving licence and own transport

  • Good timekeeping

Job role and duties

  • The Trainee Planner will report to the Construction Director.

  • Project Planning Ltd is based in the Blythe Valley office but [Covid allowing] planners may need to travel to other locations, EG occasionally work from a client’s site office or client’s head office. [The trainee will not be asked to do this until proficient and confident].

  • You will be taught and learn to use various types of planning software including Asta Powerproject and Microsoft project. Previous knowledge of this software will be an advantage but is not essential.

  • You will be taught and learn how to read and understand drawings, bills of quantities, specifications, spreadsheets, and other construction information.

  • From the above you will learn how to produce basic programmes under the supervision of a senior consultant or director.

  • You may be asked to attend client meetings with senior consultants and take notes as required. [Covid permitting]

  • Attendance at college or university may be offered subject to previous qualifications and experience.
